The
Adinkra Memorial Panels are commissioned works of art on display
in the main sanctuary of historic Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Baltimore MD.
Inscribed into the glass panel is the name of the person being memorialized
or honored, and an Adinkra symbol which venerates a cherished aspect
of the person's life. Each framed panel measures 43.18x43.18cm (17"x17").
The primary medium is glass and a liturgical color is used representing
the Christian calendar year.
In using Adinkra symbols, which originate from West Africa and were
originally created by the Akan of Ghana and the Gyaman of Cote d'Ivoire,
I give homage to my ancestors and Christian heritage.
